Let me tell you how excited I was when I heard another one of my co-workers would be running for political office… I don’t think any of us have a lot of time for sarcasm, so I’ll skip it.

When Brett Bonner decided to run for mayor of Bellingham he was still employed here.  I spent my days during that campaign trying to be fair to his opponent, Mark Asmundsen, without overcompensating at the expense of Brett. I would actually time out the sound bites to make sure that one wasn’t getting more time on the air than the other.

I had always been careful to provide even coverage for political candidates, but during that mayoral race I was extra careful. After it was over, Mark thanked me for being fair and Brett and I were able to maintain a good working relationship.

Now Ken Mann is running for Whatcom County Council. I believe my experience with covering Brett will help me as I report on Ken and whoever runs against him.
